Safety Reminder

There have been a few incidents recently where aircraft have been damaged with a few instances of aircraft actually getting into the pit area. Some of these appear to have occurred when the pilot discovered reversed or non-functioning controls after takeoff. None of us need the expense of crash damage and we certainly do not need to hurt ourselves or anyone else.

The good news is that most of these incidents could have been prevented had the pilots (not all beginners either) done a quick check of the control surface movement to be sure they actually work and that they are going in the right direction. It takes seconds to do but we have to get in the habit of doing it before every flight.

If a problem develops or becomes evident when your model is in flight announce to other pilots flying at the moment that you have a problem just as we do with a dead stick situation and get your aircraft on the ground where you can figure it out and minimize the damage. There are no more helpful people in the world than your fellow flyers if you need a hand getting your model back into flying condition. Give yourself the chance to make use of that help!

Event Volunteers

Each year RC Wingers puts on several events that create a great day of flying and fellowship with pilots from other clubs. These events are also a critical source of revenue for RC Wingers that enables us to improve the field and pay the expenses associated with running the field. In many cases those "fixed expenses" make it possible for our members to fly more and work on the field less than is required in many clubs.

Traditionally the manpower necessary to run these fun fly events has come largely from a small group of members that attend the monthly meetings. We need to get more people involved in the running of our events.

None of these volunteer positions are tough and they do not prevent you from flying in the event for which you volunteer. We usually need people to sign pilots in and sell the raffle or other prize-related tickets. There may be specific tasks an event needs help with but none that need special training or skills. We just need more people from our membership to step up and offer to help.

Below is a list of the events currently planned for the 2014 season. I include a link to the Contest Directors for each event (they are also volunteers) so you can contact (email) them directly to offer your services. This is a great way for new members to get involved and get to know more of our members.

Field Status Confirmation Setting At Field Notification
When you click on the RC Wingers logo in the upper left corner of the Members Only section this window (left) pops up so you can set your "at the Field" status to being there or leaving. To enable getting the email announcing members updating their status you go into your profile and click on the System tab to bring up this window (right). That lets you elect to receive those field status emails.

New Web-Site Feature

If you are looking to let other members know when you are at the field, we have implemented an easy solution into our web-site. Login to the Members Only section and click/touch on the RC Wingers logo in the upper left. This will set your status to "At The Field". When you want to tell folks you have left, simply click/touch the RC Wingers logo again and it will update your status to "Left The Field".

For those that are looking to know who is at the field, you have 2 options:

  1. Login to the Members Only section and click on the "Members" menu item, followed by "At Field"
    • This is the default view when accessing the site from a mobile device
  2. Update your profile (System tab) and set "Receive emails when members are at the club field" to "Yes"

For those that are looking to know when folks leave the field you have 2 options:
