A little info about RC Wingers
Mooresville, NC
RC Wingers was established in 1987 and has grown from a couple of guys with some planes to many aviation enthusiasts participating in a broad spectrum of the hobby (aircraft, helicopters, multi-rotor, gliders, etc.). We are affiliated with the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) founded in 1936, a national organization representing the interests of over 2,500 similar clubs around the country.
Our flying facility is located at 429 Patterson Farm Rd. in Mooresville North Carolina. The facilities include a grass runway, three sun shelters with electrical outlets, large pit area, and plenty of open sky to fly in. Members are most likely to be found on Saturday and Sunday mornings, but a number of the retired members will be out during the weekday mornings to have the field to themselves.
We have a great local hobby shop (HobbyTown USA) here in Mooresville that has a great inventory and knowledgable staff to help with current projects, or how to get started in this great hobby. We hope you can use them for your purchases that will keep a local hobby retailer available.
We encourage you to browse around the web-site for more club information and various articles and links to help you with the hobby. Should you wish to join the club, click on the join page listed above, or contact us via our web site contact page. We appreciate any feedback about the club or the web-site.
We encourage you to come out and watch us fly, or join in on the fun, you'll be glad you did.

What's New
12/06/2025 - December Update
We'd like to announce a new list of Directors for the club. Several members have stepped up to help run the club, and bring some new ideas and efforts to help manage and direct club growth.
The club would like to thank the previous members who served for 6 years. Dennis Cire, Dick Hooper, John Duino, and Bud Strader. They stepped up after the previous group also were in Director roles for 6 years.
We hold annual elections for Director positions, so watch out for emails in October and November regarding nominations for Director positions.
Message from the President - 01/22/2026
As we begin the new year of 2026, I want to greet everyone and wish you a great year on behalf of the newly elected club directors; Treasurer John Duino, Secretary Kris Lingenfelter, Vice President Dennis Cire and President Don Philemon. I also want to thank the outgoing officers Bud Strader and Dick Hooper for their years of service to the club. We look forward to a year of many hours of flying fun and fellowship in 2026.
Our goal this year is to inspire every club member to get out and fly as much as possible. The duties of life have a way of squeezing out the things that we really enjoy if we are not encouraged to participate. I believe that one area where we can do better to support each other is communication. That’s why I have begun posting times that I know groups will be flying on the RC Wingers Group Facebook page. While sometimes it’s great to have the skies to ourselves, fellowship is a fulfilling and vital part of the experience. The officers will be using the Facebook page to inform everyone of ongoing activities and I encourage everyone to post your plans to fly, ongoing projects, helpful information and anything else that might help and encourage other members. Let’s build and strengthen the Wingers community. If you aren’t a member of the Facebook group, please, join and share.
To the same goal, we are currently updating the RCWIngers.com website. It has not been kept current for several years and has taken on the appearance of being abandoned. This is an ongoing project. We intend it to be another contact point to create communication between members. Each member can help this effort by logging into the website and updating your information. The website keeps track of log ins and traffic has been understandably low. Please log in and help turn this around! If you have content that you would like to see added to the website, please, contact one of the club officers.
We also want to reestablish some club events throughout the coming year. Currently, a Fun Fly event is being planned for April and details will be released soon. If you have any ideas for events, please contact me or another club officer to discuss your ideas. Even better, attend a club meeting on the first Tuesday of any month and help us make plans.
I was an original member of RC Wingers when the club was formed in 1987 and I have a strong desire to see it not only continue, but flourish in the coming years. This will be a challenge as the whole RC flying community is struggling and many clubs are in decline. It is vital that we find ways to reach new members and particularly attract the interest of younger generations of pilots. Please get involved with representing the club in the community and share any ideas on how we can reach out. It is just as important that we retain our current members by being responsive to your needs and desires. Unfortunately, we can only guess at what we need to do without communication. Please feel free to overwhelm us with your thoughts. It’s the only way we can get better.
I look forward to seeing you all at the field this year. Let’s try to make 2026 an active and enjoyable season of flying and fellowship.
Don Philemon
President RC Wingers
